Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull denied Australia was asking for trade favours from the United States in exchange for military cooperation. Mr Turnbull told 7.30 host Leigh Sales that military and trade deals with the US had never been linked.

Leigh Sales could have stumped Mr Turnbull with his denial of trade and defence matters being linked is he had recalled this from The Guardian, 21/2/2018: A rejuvenated, expanded “Quadrilateral” – the four-nation security dialogue between the US, Australia, Japan, and India that is seen as a counterweight to the growing influence of China in the Indo-Pacific – will be a key element of talks between Donald Trump and the Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, in Washington this week.Turnbull has confirmed discussion of regional security will be prominent when he meets the US president on Thursday: “It’s on the agenda every time I talk to Donald Trump.

Malcolm Turnbull denies swapping military cooperation for US trade favours

“We’ve our economic relationship, we have our security relationship. We don’t make economic decisions based on a security, you know, on a military commitment somewhere,” he said.
The pair also discussed America’s embrace of protectionism over free trade, and the Prime Minister’s records in the Newspolls.
Sales asked the Prime Minister if he would step down or open a leadership spill if he lost 30 Newspolls in a row — one of the reasons he cited for challenging Tony Abbott for the prime ministership — and a benchmark Mr Turnbull may soon hit.
“Leigh, as far as the leadership of the Liberal Party is concerned, it is as John Howard always said, in the gift of the party room. That’s the test,” he said.

Yes, I saw the weasel bastard on TV last night. Sales asked the question everybody wanted asked, but the Weasel was well-prepared with weasel words.
Now it’s not the 30 Newspolls that count, but the Party vote.
He’s bloody lucky the rest of us don’t get a direct vote for PM.

The party does decide! But pretenders should not be allowed to encourage support on the strength of “jobs for the boys” to undermine a sitting PM! Funny really, his little coterie of supporters was decimated at the next election and he only just scraped in. The next election, whenever that is, will be his downfall! Malcontent has only survived because of his huge donation to party coffers that was doubtless a tax concession anyway. It really rankles that we paid to allow him and Lucy to pontificate, swagger and generally show-off around the world as Mr and Mrs Australia. But my day cometh!

Not my PM, I voted for Tony Abbott and a Liberal Party I supported from voting age, until Turnbull knifed a sitting PM. I joined the AC and I am open to installing PHON in the senate

I don’t usually have much time the Leigh Sales but I must admit that she did a great job in exposing that two-faced hypocrite who has the audacity to think he is the Prime Minister.

Another thing; someone should take that bloody mobile away from the narcissistic bore so he can’t continue his juvenile practice of taking ‘selfies’. What a complete and utter national embarrassment he is.

When the laughing- stock Liberals get the belting they deserve in 2019’s election, Malfunction Trumble will disappear like the proverbial rat up a drainpipe…never to be seen again. His gang of 54 super rats will likewise scurry into rat holes and sewers to escape the wrath of their former constituents. This is a sad period in our history which might teach our young citizens of the future a valuable lesson on ethics and accountability…..and who never ever elect to our Parliaments.
