There is fakenews and there is deepfakenews.

aaaaaaaaaaThere is fakenews and there is deepfakenews

Technology to trick our eyes and ears is advancing faster than I can keep up with it.

Teams in Germany are working on Face2Face, face-and -voice-swapping technology to create videos like that below.

Adobe is creating a “Photoshop for audio” that makes it easy to edit and manipulate what someone has said. After you’ve selectively edited someone’s words, you could take that audio and ugenerate a video of the very same person speaking those words, just to make it fully convincing.

Another one is FakeApp. It’s a free tool that’s recently been used to insert the faces of celebrities into porn videos. Some people have put limp wrist useless wastes of space into movie clips featuring John Wayne or put his face on an Indiana Jones clip.

It is only a matter of time now that the famous ‘Hitler’ videos will actually have a politicians face on them – like Trump or Turnbull.

It is not easy, even if it is largely automatic. The video below took 56 hours nonstop processing power and it requires a gift on the part of the producer.

The process being new, as a new name – deepfake.

The good news is it still requires a decent amount of skill, processing power, and time to create a really good “deepfake.”

The bad news is that anyone can be convincingly lied about just before an election and it will spread through the grapevine. The good news is that it is possible to spot the fake if you know how, but that might be too late if there is a video of someone like Putin confessing to ordering the killing of Khashoggi.

The bad news is that the lesson of computers and technology is this stuff will get easier, cheaper, and more ubiquitous faster than you would expect — or be ready for.

The good news is that there will be apps readily available that can detect it – there is a market for them even now but they have to wait until they see what evidence will be built in. MM’s Bullshit Detector we ought at a Woolies clearance is now obsolete. Turnbull fritzed it anyway.

And on it goes.

The best news is that the lying media have now shot themselves in the foot. Every day more and more have refused to believe what the media tells us. Their credibility is even below Pinocchio’s.

For what it is worth, there are basic tips you can follow to ensure you don’t get fooled easily. If more people are equipped to spot a fake, then the world has a better shot at avoiding a dystopian hellscape where every movie star and governments, trolls, and companies manufacture perfect fakes that collectively make us lose touch with reality.

1. Don’t jump to conclusions – if it is ‘Breaking News’ it has at very least 50% chance of being bullshit.

2. Consider the source. If it is the ABC or the BBC or CNN or Fairfax there is a 50% chance of bullshit.

3. Check online to see if other sources have roughly the same story without the clip.

4. Inspect the mouth – (this tip won’t last.)

and here is how the above video was made – by the man who made it.

Obama the lefty message, he and Turnbull almost wrecked their countries running with Climate change and more influx of illegals, all the things George Soros insists on when you are paid

As a lipreader, the mouth movements in the video are mostly not in sync with what is supposedly being said. While some bits here and there were, they still didn’t ring true. As MM says, that will probably improve over time. As will the portrayal of accents and individual ways of speaking.

BH, this intrigues me. Can I ask you – as a lipreader, would you say the (manipulated, of course) image is actually saying something quite different from the audio? This technology is a bit scary; it takes faking and misrepresentation to a whole new level!

Some evil people have done some evil things. This article is trying to prepare the ground work to say that the video proof of their evil behaviour is all a lie. They are trying to suggest that we can not trust video evidence.
