Commonwealth games opening and closing a shambles

The games were good, the opening and closing ceremonies were a disgrace. That the PC morons did not compete in any of the disciplines is why the games were great but the useless PC bastards with their grand egos and craving for control made an international joke of Australia for their control of both ceremonies. This social cancer has spread to such events and unless they are rooted out, exposed for what they are we can expect more of this nonsense only worse!

Lauded by organisers as “inspirational” and “innovative”, the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games have come to an end in a heavily-criticised closing ceremony, with Channel Seven’s hosts ripping into the event’s organisers live on air. As the ceremony wrapped up, Johanna Griggs and Basil Zempilas were quick to defend Seven’s coverage amid criticism they did not show vision of the athletes entering the stadium. The decision meant television viewers were denied the chance to watch inspirational para-sports veteran Kurt Fearnley carrying the Australian flag into the venue.

Commonwealth Games closing ceremony slammed on social media as Channel Seven hosts open fire
Zempilas explained it was the decision of the host broadcaster to have the athletes in the stadium before the ceremony began — a decision Griggs said “wrecked a tradition”.
“We understand many people have been disappointed by tonight’s closing ceremony and to be perfectly honest Jo, so have we been,” Zempilas said.
“It hasn’t really lived up to expectations and I’ve got to say it’s about the only thing they got wrong, but they did get it wrong tonight.”
But Griggs went even further with her criticism.
“I’m sorry you’re being way too polite,” she told Zempilas.
“People are thinking that Channel Seven has chosen not to show pictures of athletes or not to show the flag-bearer, Kurt Fearnley or other flag-bearers. We can only show the pictures that are provided by the actual host broadcasters.
“They made the decision not to have the actual athletes enter the stadium, they made the decision not to show the flag-bearers and I’m furious.
“They’re actually wrecking a tradition that is so important and part of the Commonwealth Games.
“You want to see the athletes come and you want to see them jumping in front of a camera, you want to see them celebrating 11 days of great sport. We missed out on all of that.”
‘So disappointing’
Griggs said she had never seen a stadium so empty halfway through a ceremony, while Zempilas noted that most of the athletes left during the ceremony.
“Unfortunately tonight, the hosts — the organising committee — together with the host broadcasters, just didn’t get it right,” Griggs said.
“It was a mistake not to include the athletes coming out into the stadium.
“So Kurt actually did have his moment with his teammates which was important. But I just wish we could have had that moment. I wish we could have actually seen him as part of the program.
“Not have him be there for five seconds, take the flag away and proceed to go to a show that doesn’t show any athletes until the last five minutes when they realise social media was lighting up.”
Gold Coast Commonwealth Games organising committee chairman Peter Beattie earlier stopped short of declaring the Games the best ever, but said they were “innovative” and “inspirational”.
Seven’s criticism was echoed on social media, with users airing their disappointment on missing out on seeing the athletes march in.

Instead, Seven shared footage shot earlier on Sunday night of the athletes in the stadium, including Fearnley.

I did not see any of the closing cereMOANy, so cannot comment on it. However, judging by the comments from the Channel 7 commentators and others, it was even worse than the opening cereMOANy, a self-indulgent feast of political correctness that did not even acknowledge the last 200 years of European settlement.

I for one am totally over ‘acknowledgemant to the former custodians of the land’ and ‘smoking ceremonies’ (I will spare you all the ‘moan’ for once). They are contrived, false and divisive – and I am sure 90% of any given audience wishes they did not have to endure them before any public performance.

    • TommyGun 16/04/2018, 7:37 am

      Yeah Cliff, me too.
If I hear the words “Smoking Ceremony” again I’m going to puke.
Such a load of contrived crap and drivel. Walk around with a bunch of smouldering leaves/grass waving smoke in people’s faces, pretending it’s “cleansing”….oh FFS!
The last time I saw it was on Australia Day at the Naturalisation ceremony in Canberra on TV. All the bigwigs were there brown-nosing and being ever-so PC, waving the smoke into their faces and inhaling deeply. What a bunch of WANKERS!

Ernie Dingo must be amused that his comedy routine is now serious stuff, and lucrative as “Aborigines” charge for their performances.

      • Neville 16/04/2018, 10:02 am

Judging by some of Ernie’s previous comments, he smiles bravely but is secretly appalled.

After the protestors shut down the Sunrise program on channel 7 I offered my services free of charge to employ the “kundela” (pointing the bone) against the culprits but no one took me up on it. My record of bone pointing success is equal to that of any witch doctor but it may have had limited success because many of the protesters had a light colour and thus impervious to the curse.

      • MM. Ed. 16/04/2018, 12:55 pm

BOH. You won’t believe just how fortuitous you are. Tomorrow I have ready for posting a piece about Turnbull pointing the bone at Putin. What a coincidence!

  • Penguinite 16/04/2018, 7:11 am

Beattie said “This games will not be forgotten easily” for sure the opening/closing ceremonies won’t be. Giant sops to Aborigines. They forgot to issue the marijuana for the smoking ceremony.

    The athletes, however, were fantastic!

I thought we are all Australians now?

The mob demonstrating want their country back, so which tribe are they from of the possibly over 250 tribes that had separate tribal lands before 1788 and afterwards for maybe 1800s, mostly vacant by 1900s?

What about Native Title, all Australians who can demonstrate a continuous relationship with land (Mabo Family for example) have the right to claim. These activists obviously have no evidence and think that shouting and misbehaving will result in a bonus, handing over to them tribal lands they have no relationship with.

  • bushwanker 16/04/2018, 9:12 am

After this left wing do-gooder PC wank fest to acknowledge Aborigines, most Aussies will be so fed up, they wont be voting for any constitutional recognition.

    • Neville 17/04/2018, 1:32 am

Yeah; sounds like there’s a bright side to it all!

  • Lorraine 16/04/2018, 9:16 am

The communist weekly of 1931 sets out the agenda for the giving back the lands to the aborigines. there were 14 demands , as mentioned 13 have been met….read the 14th it is underway right now by all involved . A state if their own with a town with a port and their own Government.

    • Joe Blogs 16/04/2018, 12:10 pm

Hasn’t the port done them enough damage already?

  • Albert 16/04/2018, 9:17 am

The prediction around here by my very close neighbours was that Beattie would stuff it all up and they were right. Beattie was the idiot that told locals to leave town because it was going to be bursting at the seams with visitors and then begged them to come back because the streets, the shops, the cafes et al were empty. This is what happens when everything is dripping with PC slime.

    • Lorraine 16/04/2018, 9:25 am

The left always mess up but it someone else’s fault. Peter will have his big wide grin telling one and all it was a change from tradition and that is a good thing.

      • Ibbit 16/04/2018, 9:47 am

Sure enough, Beattie did his usual mea culpa. I did not – thankfully – see his face but hearing that voice was bad enough. We watched a little of the worst spectacle one could ever wish to see and worst of all was Beattie sidling sideways to keep his ugly mush on camera during other “dignitaries” speeches.
Did he not think he had done enough damage without trying to keep his mush in the public mind, thus owning the debacle and wreckage around him? Worse than the opening ceremony which was tedious and had little to do with Australia, the closing do was another celebration of leftist PC, and vomit worthy. We tuned out after 10 tedious minutes during which we hoped things might improve, even if just a smidgeon.
The games themselves and all athletes from all over the commonwealth were marvellous.
Why were they not handed the job of the opening and closing entertainment, given their heroic behaviour during the actual games – as opposed to the pretend opening and closing rubbish – they would not have stuffed it up. .
As for those aborigines – more white than black who caused trouble, they should have been arrested and thrown in jail along with ALL the PC brigade who seem so intent on dividing our Country by force feeding us PC rubbish which will turn Australians – all but the whiners – against so-called aborigines big time. If they ever get their hands on what they demand as their right, that might just be the worst day of their useless lives and that of equally useless politicians who pander to them.

      • DT 16/04/2018, 3:50 pm

        The Media Tart.

  • Biking Voter 16/04/2018, 9:36 am

Didn’t watch any of it, opening, during or closing.
All as boring as bat crap when commentors outnumber competitors and start interviewing each other.
Then the apparent milk sop attitude from losing competitors moaning that they “wuz robbed” because the PC judges awarded the place to someone else.

  • Rubyread 16/04/2018, 9:45 am

The Commonwealth Games were a “left wing stuffup” Australia will be the laughing stock of the world now thanks to the ineptness of whoever appointed Pater Beattie and Kate Jones to run it. Obviously they appointed all left wing members of the “Organizing Committee”. No other Games to my knowledge used the same artists in the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. They all screamed their way through with songs no one has ever heard of. Where were our iconic songs like “I am Australian” and
Waltzing Matilda. The world wide audience will now think we are a nation of Aboriginals and beachgoers. We can be rightly proud of our athletes and their dedication to their sport, and they should have been recognised at the Closing Ceremony. I doubt if Australia will be trusted to even host another Commonwealth Games. As for Birmingham from what I saw of their 15 minutes of fame I would not want to go there. They are not the heart of England anyway. Channell Seven did a great job of recording the actual Games but the Opening and Closing Ceremonies were garbage.

  • Clarion Call 16/04/2018, 11:57 am

Once bullshit Beattie got his left-hand on this gig it was guaranteed to be a schemozzle from day one. Why are we not surprised that the opening/closing ‘ceremonies’ were a total stuff-up, replete with cringeworthy ‘we own the joint’ displays. After all, the so-called organisers only had forever time to plan for it. As for those indigenous protestors who gave us some of their predictable and laughable babble…off to jail for a lengthy stint for being such complete cretins.

  • Joe Blogs 16/04/2018, 12:18 pm

    Games? Did I miss something?

    • Xword 16/04/2018, 1:10 pm

Had my three Sainte Etaines (quaffable cheap Aldi beer) immediately before opening/closing ceremonies so slept through ’em both (luckily, it appears). Liked the look of a lot of athletes (special mention to pole vaulter Nina Kennedy) but if I heard one more commentator saying there were X amount of gold medals “up for grabs” that day I think the TV screen would have worn the remote.

    • Deano 16/04/2018, 1:14 pm

      No.

    • Don 16/04/2018, 9:44 pm

Such an in depth contribution Bloggsie – and one of your best

    • Neville 17/04/2018, 1:38 am

Not really, Bloggsie, just a bunch of lefty crap and Sarah Moanies.
Though as always, the athletes put their heart and soul in – despite the PC claptrap “celebrated” by the “organisers”.

Putin pointing a bone at Chairman Mal?

It would be a standoff, Mal would simply point his spectacles at the President.
