Andrew Bolt: “feel the fear”

Andrew Bolt: Feel the fear, re Abbott

Feel the fear. They’ve told us for years Tony Abbott is finished.
Yet the ABC’s Insiders today devotes around 10 minutes to attacking, ridiculing and misrepresenting him.

And Miranda Devine today lists half a dozen things Abbott has said that were absolutely right – and angrily tells him to shut up. Turnbull meanwhile says something very dishonest, and Devine defends.

Last week, Turnbull showed the strain of having to shadow box an enemy he cannot name with an emotional outburst at a press conference.

This “emotional outburst” was actually not against Abbott but Home Affairs Peter Dutton, who’d suggested (correctly) cutting immigration numbers but was overruled by Turnbull, who last week falsely claimed that an Australian report on this was “completely false”. Turnbull later backtracked – and this is how Devine reports all that.

On Monday, to mark Turnbull’s 30th Newspoll loss, Abbott told Ray Hadley on 2GB, “it really is something for Malcolm to explain, why it applied for me, but shouldn’t apply now.”

Abbott is right: it is indeed for Turnbull to explain when losing 30 Newspolls meant Abbott should go but Turnbull not. But Miranda says Abbott should not say anything when asked this on his regular guest spot.

On Tuesday, he warned 3AW’s Neil Mitchell of “damaging blackouts in Victoria” if the Hazelwood power plant were not kept open.

Abbott is right. The closing of Hazelwood – responsible for a quarter of Victoria’s electricity – does threaten Victoria with blackouts. But Miranda says Abbott should not say anything.

On Wednesday, on Ben Fordham’s 2GB program, he attacked the PM and Julie Bishop for being “very clever with words”, having their “knickers in a twist”, and being at odds with Peter Dutton. “A sensible government” wouldn’t behave this way.
Abbott is right. Turnbull and Bishop had both made false claims in denying that Dutton had suggested cuts to immigration, and a sensible government would not mislead like that. Nor should Turnbull have blocked cuts to our out-of-control immigration levels. But Miranda says Abbott should not say anything.

On Thursday, he told 2CC’s Tim Shaw: “ … My problem with the National Energy Guarantee is that it puts a higher priority on reducing emissions than reducing prices”. Which was the opposite message to Frydenberg’s National Press Club address the day before, prioritising prices and energy security.Abbott is right. The NEG puts cutting emissions above cutting prices, the most urgent political problem. But Miranda says Abbott should not say anything.

That night, Abbott was interviewed by his former chief of staff Peta Credlin.

Abbott was right to give an interview that was exclusively about a charity he was supporting – returned soldiers needing help – and for which he has just raised $500,000. But Miranda says he should not say anything.

Friday morning he was on 2GB with Alan Jones, decrying subsidies for renewables, and saying Turnbull had to force AGL to keep the Liddell power station open: “No sensible government can see a vital piece of national infrastructure taken out of the system for the private profit of a particular company”.

Abbott is right. Renewables should not be subsidised, as Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg last week hinted (but didn’t have the courage to announce), and Turnbull himself is trying to keep open Liddell for the very reasons Abbott gave. But Miranda says Abbott shouldn’t say anything.

Abbott is right, and if Turnbull and his cheerers would get over themselves and heed his advice they might just win the next election.

Instead, they are so consumed with hatred and fear that they’d rather lose that next election than change.

Devine’s article refers to “Abbott’s jihad”. Devine, please tell us who Abbott has killed?

  • seadogger 16/04/2018, 5:10 am

Well there is one thing Amanda Devine can look forward to, she wont be getting any more bullets sent in the mail if she is getting them now

“Devine Comedy” – She has joined the long list of Abbott haters.

Tony Abbott is the ONLY capable MP with a modicum of intelligence and the ONLY person that can save the Liberal Party.

It’s convenient for those on the Liberal light left to ignore history, ignore the undermining commenced during 2009 when failing quickly Opposition Leader Turnbull, who undermined Opposition Leader Nelson to become the leader in 2008, was nervously looking over his shoulder and worrying that Abbott MP might be drafted to replace him. So with his “Black Hand” faction comrades they went to their friends at Labor’s GetUp organisation and plotted how they would smear Abbott.

In 2009 Abbott became Opposition Leader by a narrow margin of party room votes, but the undermining and smearing continued relentlessly. Clearly, by attacking their leader the fools on the left dragged the image of the Coalition down too. However, in 2010 the Abbott led Coalition effectively defeated Gillard led Labor and they had to recruit outsiders to help them form a minority alliance government. Noting that in November 2007 Rudd Labor defeated the Howard Government comfortably.

In September 2013 the Abbott Government took office following a landslide defeat of Rudd Labor. The Coalition was in a very strong position. But was handicapped by Labor’s budget crisis relating to their never ever a budget surplus years, high debt and in their last budget, financial year 2013/14 a number of budgeted items unfunded: Gonski, NDIS, others. And therefore their estimated budget deficit was much higher than admitted. The first Abbott Government Budget was for 2014/15 and Treasurer Hockey announced a several year budget repair plan pointing out that if Labor borrowing had continued the around $400 billion of debt after making provision for the unfunded Labor budget items would climb to close to $700 billion within three years. But as usual the ABC/MSM went on the attack and condemned the Hockey Budget, and the Black Hand faction were not supportive, which is under stating the treachery that took place. Anonymous media briefing by MPs not willing to be named as the source of the leaks.

Turnbull finally manoeuvred himself into a winning position by September 2015 and replaced Abbott as Prime Minister.

In my opinion the government today would be in a very comfortable position if internal saboteurs were not active from 2009 to 2015 undermining Abbott and therefore the Coalition image. The 30 Newspoll results Turnbull brushes aside were self inflicted because after the damage was done his lack of leadership and judgement has made their position worse.

Well summarised DT. Miranda Devine is the originator of the term ‘Delcon’ meaning ( apparently)’Deluded Conservatives’.

As time continues to move on, the True Deluded Ones are being seen to be not the Conservatives. Perhaps a redefining of ‘delcon’ might be ‘Deluded Con-Artists’, of which Miranda Devine is one.

Someone had to take over from Niki Savva!

      • Botswana O'Hooligan 16/04/2018, 11:12 am

Where is Ms Savva? I miss her for not having to read her vitriol in the Australian each day.

Was talking yesterday to a couple of local business men working on Sunday re our local LNP member who is being challenged for pre-selection. they say he is arrogant, wont talk to anyone , wont ring them back..shades of the TURD. This morning I also note that George Christensen is being challenged also, another LNP member. So much dissatisfaction everywhere

Miranda used to make good reading several years ago, but she is now a spokesperson for the NWO, and has gone completely bonkers. She may like being a slave for NWO, but I certainly don’t like the nwo.

It could be that Devine has been got at by lefty PC editors at news Ltd. and is no longer free to write as she once did.

      • Deano 16/04/2018, 11:00 pm

Over the years, I’ve seen several conservative writers and broadcasters suddenly go all PC once their network or paper is taken over by Fairfax or else they work for Aunty.

  • Albert 16/04/2018, 9:08 am

As I said in earlier comments; I once respected Miranda Devine’s writings but now that she has lost the plot and is backing the despicable ‘Black Hand’ mob I just can’t be bothered with her.

    • Lorraine 16/04/2018, 9:33 am

Devine backed Turnbull from the start, that is when I stopped reading anything she wrote. MSM is usually leftie to the heart, but you get the halfway left, which is Turnbull his faction and Devine

  • Dave 16/04/2018, 9:44 am

It shows the caliber of the media, Turnbull has made a living out of being a dud, who manipulates and pays his way in and out of the situations he finds himself in regularly.
He payed a sum of money after his royal commission, and knifed his way to the top.
His investments undermine Australian companies, and a family members company buys into wind farm companies that were bleeding millions before he got in and threw us under the bus in Paris.
He stands for himself only. He couldn’t give two hoots about us taxpayers.
The msm are helping one of our biggest duds of a PM to trash what’s left of the country, and make profits himself on the way.

I wonder when all of the players ,that to blame TONY ABBOTT is becoming boring, Bill Shorten does not want Tony Abbott back in the game…….he knows he is a has been if that happens

  • Ibbit 16/04/2018, 9:53 am

What’s the matter with Devine? Perhaps she is in love with the appalling Turnbull or perhaps she hasn’t a brain in her head. It is she who should shut up – permanently.

  • Aktosplatz 16/04/2018, 11:02 am

Miranda Devine, like the remainder of the “Turnbull Support Set”still do not realise that this is not entirely about Tony Abbott’s Personality vs Turnbulls.

    It’s about their respective POLICIES.

We don’t want Labor Lite Turnbull policies.

We don’t want to be ripped off regarding the Renewable Energy BS, in favour of Turnbull’s son’s Business; we don’t support SSM( well, I don’t), we don’t support the massive Debt concerning useless French built submarines in order to help the Despicable Pyne’s seat in South Australia.

We didn’t vote Liberal(originally) for any of this, but Devine insists we did, by proxy.

    That’s not true – we didn’t.

And BTW, Abbott’s Personality leaves Turnbulls for dead, anyway.

  • Clarion Call 16/04/2018, 12:13 pm

Methinks Tony A must have given Miranda a divine knock-back at some stage. She’s really got her knickers in a knot. Beware of wimmin scorned! Especially some of the sheila journos covering the Canberra beat. Mess with them at your peril. Nickoff Savva is a good example.
